Each year The School of Economics offers two three-year scholarships for outstanding Australian students who are seeking admission to the Bachelor of Economics (BEcon) degree at The University of Queensland (UQ).

Each scholarship valued at over $25,000. For study started in 2009, Two scholarships are available to students who are completing Year 12 studies in 2008:

  • One for a Year 12 domestic student (non-ATSI)
  • One for an Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander student

Scholarship recipients who are accepted into the one year BEcon (Honours) program are eligible to apply for an Honours Scholarship.

Basis of Award

  • Criteria based on Year 12 Overall Position and broad academic achievement in Years 11 and 12. Interviews may be required.
  • Previous study of economics at school or college is not required for enrolment in the BEcon degree, nor for the scholarship.
  • Students with a strong maths/science background are encouraged to apply.
  • For successful scholarship candidates seeking to undertake the BEcon as part of a dual program, the scholarship will cover the BEcon component i.e. 36 units required for the BEcon.
