An externally funded PhD position is available immediately within the School of Biomedical & Natural Sciences, Nottingham Trent University. You will join the Biomolecular and Materials Interface Research Group to work on a project aimed at increasing our understanding of how peptides interact with specific nano-structured mineral surfaces.
The project is interdisciplinary in nature and will involve “the synthesis of materials and their characterisation, experimental studies of peptide binding as well as molecular modelling studies of defined surfaces, peptides and studies of their molecular level interactions”. The appointed student will work alongside Dr Patwardhan, a Postdoctoral scientist in the teamworking on the same project. For further background on the research groupincluding research topics currently under investigation and publicationsarising from the group please refer to the website: Biomolecular and Materials Interface Research Group.
The PhD studentships would suit a highly motivated person with interest in both inorganic materials chemistry and the structural chemistry of biomolecules. The project offers an excellent opportunity for candidates to learn and contribute to the emerging area of “nanobiotechnology”. Entry requirement: a first class or upper second class UK MChem/MSci Honoursdegree (or equivalent) in Chemistry or a related physical science discipline. The minimum English language proficiency requirement is IELTS6.5 or TOEFL 550/CBTOEFL 220 for candidates who have not undertaken a Higherdegree in the UK.
The studentship offers a bursary of £12,000 (tax free) per annum for three years and Home/EU student fees.
