The University of Nothingham, UK

Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme (ORSAS) was set up in 1979 by the Secretary of State for Education and Science to attract high quality students to the UK to undertake research. It provides partial remission of tuition fees for international postgraduate research students of outstanding merit.

Only international students with a conditional or unconditional offer on a postgraduate research programme at the University of Nottingham starting in September 2008 will be eligible to apply. Students paying UK or EU fees are not eligible.

Awards Value and Duration
Awards at the University of Nottingham will cover the full international tuition fee. Each award will be made for one year in the first instance but, subject to satisfactory progress, is renewable for a second or a third year.

Aim Of Study
The proposed research project should offer good scope for intellectual training and, where relevant, the acquisition of manipulative technique and skills. It should also, where possible, provide him/her during the first year of training with an opportunity to demonstrate the qualities necessary to be a successful research worker.

Please ensure that you have a conditional or unconditional offer from The University of Nottingham for a Phd programme before you make the scholarship application.

Candidates should note that a first selection of applications will be made within each academic School, in view of the limited number of awards. Each School will only be able to put forward 4 applications to be assessed.

Students who apply for ORS awards will automatically be considered for Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards for 2008-2009 . The University of Notingham has not yet received the details for the 2008-2009 competition. Details are expected to be available in February 2008
