Germany. The Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg/Germany is seeking a Researcher for Japanese Criminal Law beginning at the earliest possible starting date.

Requirements for this position are a university law degree with good grades/final marks and very good knowledge of Japanese, English, and German. A keen interest in the doctrinal aspects of criminal law and proven knowledge of criminal law, especially in the national legal system of the country section which the candidate would represent, are also expected.

The duties associated with the research position primarily include writing country reports for research projects within the Institute and responding to inquiries as well as preparing expert opinions on the legal situation in the country section. Additional duties involve ongoing tasks in the country section, such as keeping the respective section of the library up-to-date, establishing and maintaining contacts with scholars abroad, and supervising guest researchers at the Institute.

The position is to be filled on a part-time, temporary basis (50 %). If applicable, the opportunity to earn a doctorate can be given and, with it, the perspective of receiving support for a subsequent academic career.

The position is salaried according to the relevant criteria of the German civil servant rate (up to E14 TVöD).
