Australia. The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security (CEPS) is seeking full-time Research Fellows with extensive statistical and analytical expertise to work across a number of research projects at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia.The successful appointees will have significant experience and expertise in spatial, visual analysis and/or network analysis and will work with CEPS Chief Investigators, Associate Investigators and other academic staff, across a number of Centre projects, integrating disparate data, to advance knowledge and inform policy.
The appointees will be involved in primary and secondary data collection, and be expected to manage large datasets and use appropriate statistical techniques to answer research questions that fit within the Centre’s research agenda. Details of the Centre’s research agenda can be found at International and interstate travel may be required. The positions are offered as a fixed term appointment for two to five years.
Responsibilities
- Design and preparation of research proposals and management of research projects.
- Perform data analysis and deal with sensitive data.
- Effectively fuse and analyse dynamic and complex information streams including structured and unstructured text documents, measurements, images, and other data sources.
- Writing of academic reports, articles, policy statements and grant application.
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with a variety of professionals
- Conference presentations.
- Advise researchers on appropriate methodology and analysis (including PhD scholars in collaboration with their supervisors).
- Develop and deliver, or arrange the delivery of, short courses in advanced data analysis for PhD scholars and researchers associated with the projects.
- Provide advice and assistance to researchers to set up and maintain databases associated with their research projects.
- Represent the Chief Investigator on research methodology and statistical matters on internal and external planning committees, taskforces and meetings as required.
Eligibility Criteria
Essential
- A PhD in statistics, computer science, information technology, mathematics, science or other field that creates the appropriate technical expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a cross-disciplinary team to produce high quality research.
- Demonstrated skills in methods of quantitative research and statistical analysis including multivariate, latent variable and multi-level modelling, and analysis of longitudinal data.
- Strong spatial and visual analytics tools and/or network analytic tools, in which to manage complex multidimensional data, and effectively fuse and analyse dynamic and complex information streams including structured and unstructured text documents, measurements, images, and other data sources.
- Experience with high-impact, practical software that can be used effectively to explore spatial, temporal and network distributions of crime.
- Ability to clean, manage and manipulate large datasets.
- Capacity to advise researchers on research methodology and statistics.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience in an international research team.
- Research management experience.
