Postdoc Positions in Modeling and Simulation of Wind Turbine Systems

Denmark. Aalborg University.

The positions are available within the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Medicine, Department of Energy Technology. Applicants should posses a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and a sound background in electrical machines and power converters including control for wind turbine systems.

The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Experience in using Matlab/Simulink and Power Factory-DigSilent is also required. Appointment to Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at the same institution -appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark, however a maximum of six years at Assistant Professor level at Aalborg University.

The main objective during this project is to enhance the capabilities as well as the interaction between the simulation tools Matlab/Simulink and DigSilent so that an integrated simulation of a wind turbine system in both tools should be possible.

Research areas will be within:

• defining the general framework of interconnecting Matlab/Simulink with Power Factory-DigSilent.
• updating the existing models, in both software tools, for an integrated simulation.
• defining generic benchmark models for fixed- and variable- speed wind turbine concept.
• studying new converter topologies including their control for grid integration of wind turbines.

A close cooperation with RISØ/DTU is expected during the project and the successful candidate must be able and willing to continue the work started by Aalborg University and RISØ National Laboratory/DTU in the area of modelling and simulation of the wind turbine systems.

Limited teaching within the area can be expected, but also in other study programmes at the University.
