Sweden. The Structural Mechanics group at the department of Mechanics are looking for two new students, interested in pursuing research studies in our group. The positions are financed through a salary or an individual study grant. The requirements for starting the education is a passed MSc degree in mechanics or applied mathematics, a working knowledge of English, and an interest in pursuing research studies within either of the two areas defined below; the qualifications are measured with respect to Swedish regulations.

Both positions are concerned with the controlled dynamics of structures, with an emphasis on the usage of sophisticated simulation tools in an application context. They are directed towards:

  • Human movement simulations. We want to combine the knowledge areas of muscle physiology and motion capture analyses, through numerical modelling. The aim is to use computer simulations for improved understanding of human movements in clinical and sports contexts.Reference number: S-2008-0228

  • Simulations of tensegrity and other optimized engineering structures. We want to develop methods for the the dynamics, control and stability of structures with highly specialized components. The aim is to increase the understanding of the possibilities lying in these structues for space, underwater and more normal structures. Reference number: S-2008-0229

To address its varied work, KTH (The Royal Institute of Technology) aims to employ a diversity of talent and thus welcomes applicants who will add to the variety of the University, especially as concerns its gender structure.

Further information on the research areas, and the general setting of the research can be obtained from professor Anders Eriksson, phone +46 8 790 7950 (anderi@kth.se)

Questions on formal aspects can also be directed to the department head of staff administration Ingunn Wester, phone +46 8 790 7536 (ingunn@mech.kth.se)
