UK. Several scholarships are available for student pursuing Master’s degree within The Graduate School at Oxford Brookes University. These scholarships are for international students wishing to undertake full-time taught postgraduate master’s degrees in September this year.

Scholarships will be awarded for academic excellence and each award will be paid towards the full-time international tuition fee for a taught master’s degree. These scholarships do not include a maintenance grant.

Who is eligible?
1. You should have or expect to have a good honours degree or equivalent from a recognised institution of higher education, or have experience which demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skills at honours degree standard.

2. Candidates receiving awards from other sources of funding which cover all their tuition fees will not be eligible for a taught postgraduate scholarship; eligibility is not affected by funding covering maintenance costs.

3. You must have accepted a place on a master’s course at Oxford Brookes University and have paid the required deposit.

4. You must meet the University’s English language requirements or be accepted on the University’s pre-sessional English language course.

How do I apply?
Candidates must complete a John Henry Brookes International Scholarships Scheme application form. Forms are available on the website at: www.brookes.ac.uk/research/scholarships.html

Taught postgraduate scholarships for master’s degree courses of £1,000 to £3,200 towards the cost of the full-time international tuition fee are available for the year 2006/07. All scholarships are for a period of one year only and the scholarships do not include a maintenance grant.

Conditions and eligibility

  • You must have accepted a place on a master’s course at Oxford Brookes University, ie a course leading to an MA, MSc, MBA or LLM. You must be a new master’s student starting your course in the 2006/2007 academic year.
  • The scholarships are for one year full time only.
  • The scholarship scheme is open to international (non-EU) students only.
  • You should have, or expect to obtain, a good honours degree or equivalent from a recognised institution of higher education, or have experience which demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skills at honours degree standard.
  • Candidates receiving awards from other sources of funding which cover all their tuition fees will not be eligible for a taught postgraduate scholarship; eligibility is not affected by funding covering maintenance costs.

Criteria for selection of candidates
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence and the suitability of candidates for their chosen courses in terms of how the course builds on previous education and experience, and relates to career ambitions/personal development.

Selection process
When allocating awards, the selection panel will take account of:

  • candidates’ performance in examinations and other formal assessments at first degree level
  • work experience and professional qualifications, if appropriate
  • candidates’ personal statements
  • references supporting the candidate’s application to the course
  • supporting statements made by postgraduate tutors on candidates’ scholarship application forms.

Candidates who are final year undergraduates must notify the Graduate Office of the result of their degree before 23 June 2006 in order to be considered for a scholarship. Where this is not possible a written explanation should be submitted for consideration. Students must meet the English language requirements for their course.

Deadlines
The Graduate Office must receive all scholarship applications by 1 June 2006. Late applications will not be accepted. You will be informed of the selection panel’s decision by 7 July 2006.
If you are offered a scholarship, you must indicate by 14 July 2006 whether you wish to accept.

Deposits
Deposits may be refunded if the candidate does not meet the academic standard required, does not obtain a visa to study in the UK or in exceptional circumstances.
