The European University Institute, Florence, Italy
The European University Institute stands out among those institutions in Europe which offers postdoctoral training. The Institute also provides valid alternatives to the programme available in United States. Fernand Braudel Senior Fellowships is one of its funded-fellowships options.
The Fernand Braudel Senior Fellowships Programme provides a framework for established academics with an international reputation for the pursuit of research at the Institute.
Fellows carry out their research in one of the Institute’s four departments. The departments invite fellows to participate in the activities which they organize (seminars, workshops, colloquia). They also hope that fellows will make contact with researchers with the same academic interests as them, and they may be involved in the teaching and thesis supervision tasks of Institute’s professors. Fellows may be associated with one of the research projects under way at the Institute.
The fellowships will be for 3 to 10 months (candidates are invited to indicate the intended length of stay in their application noting that fellowships will generally not be awarded for the months of July and August). The Department of Political and Social Sciences normally expects the fellows to stay a minimum of 5 months.
The fellowships are open to established academics with an international reputation. Former professors or fellows of the Institute are eligible beyond three years’ expiry of their last contract.
Candidates of all nationalities are eligible for the Senior Fellowships. However, fellows should have a good knowledge of the languages most relevant to their proposed research.
Application deadline for 2008-2009 academic years: 30 September 2007 and 30 March 2008. Those dates are usually used as the annual deadline for this fellowship.
