Italy. Several scholarships grants are available for the Doctorate programme within the International Doctorate Schools. The Doctorate program is centered around three main areas of research, namely: Computer Science, Telecommunications and Electronics.
The school publishes two calls per year, roughly speakup in the periods December -February and May -June. The last call for the Academic year 2006/2007 announces 12 positions, of which 8 have also attached a grant.
Applicants are encouraged to take into account the detailed topicsabove when selecting which of the three main areas they should apply.
2006 Second call
Applications will not be accepted in case of lack of the following documents by the 11th of July 2006: the filled in and signed “Admission Call” form (”Form A”) and the attachments from no. 1 to no. 7.
The attachments must be uploaded (preferably in PDF-format) within the 11th of July 2006 on the page http://ict.unitn.it/edu/ict/appform/login.xml using your access credentials received after completing your online registration.
- Photocopy of the applicant’s identity card or passport.
- Degree certificate:
- Degree certificate for the candidates who have obtained the Italian degree of “Laurea specialistica” (”magistrale”) or a university degree of the previous regulations in force.
- For the candidates who have a foreign qualification that has not been officially recognised as equivalent to an Italian degree: translation into English of the degree certificate with exams and grades obtained and furthermore signed by the applicant to enable the Doctorate School Committee to declare its equivalence, for the only purpose of being admitted to the present Call.
The EU citizens can present a Self-declaration, stating they have obtained the degree, according to Presidential Decree no. 445 of 28.12.2000.
Applications are also accepted from students, who expect to complete their degree by the 31.10.2006. These candidates, in order to be admitted to the Call, have to present:
- University enrolment certificate with exams and grades obtained.
- Official letter by their supervisor stating the date for the candidate’s thesis defence.
- Summary of the dissertation either in Italian or in English explaining the reasons for the choice of the subject, the research methodology and results obtained (minimum three and maximum six pages).
- Curriculum Vitae.
- Two letters of recommendation (applicants can use the attached “Form B”) from two experts on the research.
- Applicants have to declare how long and why they have known the referees who are writing the letter of recommendation and should also state their full address and e-mail.
- Short statement (maximum two pages) in English explaining the reasons for the applicant’s interest in attending the PhD School and outlining specific research interests (Statement of Research Interest).
- List of publications if any.
- Any certificates attesting to the knowledge of the English language (e.g. TOEFL, Proficiency Certificate or other).
- If the GRE test (Graduate Record Examination) has been sat then pass certification.
- Any other document or qualification demonstrating the applicant’s research skills.
The following two attachments are requested only for candidates who intend to obtain the suitability also for the Dual PhD UniTN-University of Iceland grant Telecommunications Area.
- Explicit request to the examining committee about the affirmation of suitability of Dual PhD UniTN-University of Iceland grant. The research subject will be on “Development of advanced methodologies for the automatic analysis of multi-temporal remote sensing images obtained by sensor satellite of high geometric resolution”.
- Brief research project on the specific subject “Development of advanced methodologies for the automatic analysis of multi-temporal remote sensing images obtained by sensor satellite of high geometric resolution”.
